Contact business categories

How to create and manage business categories for classifying contacts.

Business categories for contacts work similarly to the ones for brands. They help you classify contacts by industry, role, or interest so you can filter and export targeted lists.

Creating categories

  1. Go to Contact List > Business categories
  2. Click Create
  3. Enter the category name
  4. Click Save

Reordering

Drag and drop categories to change their display order in filters and dropdown menus.

Assigning to contacts

When creating or editing a contact, select one or more business categories from the dropdown. These tags then become available as filters on the contact list.

Import and export

Use Import to upload categories from an Excel file, or Export to download the current list. The template file shows the expected format.

Common questions

Q: Are these the same as project business categories?

No. Contact business categories are separate from the ones used for brands within projects. They serve a similar purpose but are independent lists.

Q: Can I delete a category that has contacts assigned to it?

Yes. Deleting a category removes the tag from all contacts, but does not delete the contacts themselves.
